Cosy hotels with fireplaces in Tirol – A seat by the fire anyone?

I’m really looking forward to the arrival of winter, hopefully snow-filled with low temperatures – just the way we like it. Nothing beats that feeling of trudging home, boots crunching in the crisp, fresh snow and being cuddled by a warm down jacket. My heart warms, even now, as I think of that great feeling when you step inside from the cold winter – the cosy indoors and the long nights – is there anything better than sitting by the fireplace and watching the flames flicker away? If that’s the feeling you’re after too, please find below a list of some of the most beautiful and friendly Tirolean hotels with that essential winter ingredient: an open fireplace.

The Hotel Wiesenhof in Pertisau am Achensee is a long-time favourite of mine. This hotel is cosy through and through, with great spa pampering. Go for some long winter walks, take in the beauty of the lake (it’s right outside the Hotel) and absorb the loveliness of it all. My top tip is: arrive by horse-drawn carriage from Falzthurn or simply walk it. And if that’s not enough of a hike, stronger walkers should try the Gramai trail – it’s unforgettably beautiful! Prices are from €123 per person per day (half-board). The hotel scores 5.7 out of a possible 6 points and a recommendation of 100% on holidaycheck.de so it comes highly recommended.

The Hotel Schwarzer Adler in St. Anton delivers fine alpine lifestyle. The hotel is centrally located in the pedestrian zone of this famous resort. The food here is fantastic, although before a drink by the fire, perhaps a trip to St. Anton’s super selection of shops is in order? And for the skiers who put finding some local entertainment high on the list of priorities, this is also an ideal location. A recommendation of 100% and 5.7 out of 6 points on holidaycheck.de mirrors my opinion. Prices start at €128 per person per day (half-board).

For years Hotel Alpin Spa Tuxerhof has been a shining star among the top hotels on the ratings website holidaycheck.de. A guarantee for consistent, exceptional quality, this hotel in Tux in the Zillertal valley delivers everything you would expect from a perfect spa stay. You need only browse the reviews section to see what people love about Hotel Alpin – scoring an incredible 5.9 out of 6 with a 100% recommendation rate! Prices start at €135 per person per day (half-board).

The Hotel Chesa Monte in Fiss rates highly for me with its cosy ambience and beautiful décor making it stand out. Its excellent food is worth a special mention and I love the way the restaurant looks – it’s got a great alpine style. I feel fantastic when I’m here. The hotel is also very family friendly (as is the entire region of Fiss-Serfaus-Ladis). Hotel Chesa Monte scores 5.7/6 on holidaycheck.de with a recommendation of 99% and comes in at €138 per person per day (half board).

Finally, the Kristallhütte in Kaltenbach (in the ski resort Hochzillertal) is one of the most beautiful settings I know of when I think ‘hotels with fireplaces’ (see cover photo). The lodge is accessible by skis only, but it’s open to anybody passing – people not necessarily staying in one of the beautiful rooms but simply taking a welcome break from a hard day on the pistes to enjoy the delights of this mountainside establishment. Scenes around the Kristallhütte fireplace are at their most hectic in the afternoon before 3.30pm, after which point most skiers make their way down into the valley leaving the mountain quiet – a great time to get a bit more skiing done if you like the slopes to yourself.
