Are you looking for a great place to peacefully glide cross country? Tirol’s top cross country skiing regions are the gateways to a cross country skiing adventure like no other!

Last winter Tirol’s Top Cross Country Skiing Regions have been thoroughly inspected to meet the following performance standards:

  • Trails have been awarded the Tirol Seal of Approved Quality
  • Cross country skiing is available on at least 50 kilometers of trails
  • There’s quality instruction for everyone, from the very first-timer to racers seeking to refine technique
  • Service, rentals and sale of cross country ski equipment and gear, classic and skate skiing style are available
  • Access to the Trail Network: Toilets, lockers, Nordic Skier’s Information Corner with all you need to know about the trail network & Rentals
  • Conditions of the trail network
  • Waymarking and signage of the trail network
  • XC ski trail maps
  • Website of the Nordic Center

The bottom line: Thumbs up! The trail networks are superbly groomed, the Nordic Centers provide the opportunity to rent top-notch equipment on the spot and all questions are answered at the local tourist information offices. With the help of Georg Pawlata, who did the quality checks at Tirol’s top XC Ski Areas, they have been starting to improve and upgrade their already high level of quality, services, and performance standards.

Moreover, amateur travel journalists have checked Tirol’s cross country ski trails as well:

Gabi and her friend visited scenic Tannheimer Tal Valley. “We were keen on getting to know as much of the trail network as possible. All skill levels are accommodated for on the available tracks, from upcoming racers to those wanting to enjoy the scenery.” Luckily, the two girls could explore the trails under deep blue skies. “We had an amazing time here in Tannheimer Tal Valley, which definitely is cross country skier’s paradise. But the days went too quickly, so one thing is for sure – we will return!”

Ilse and Sonja spent a weekend in Leutasch, at the heart of the Seefeld Olympia Region. “The weather was awesome and as we started exploring the area we found out that access to the XC ski track was just opposite the car park—as convenient as it gets!” They grabbed their skis and headed for the trails. “Grooming is excellent on the 1.8K trail. It is easy and perfectly suitable for all ages, even for kids. And for beginners just like us who try to master the classic style while admiring those bright blurs that flash past in spandex outfits, skate skiers that is.”

Manuel and Kornelia travelled from Germany’s Cologne to Pertisau at Lake Achensee and were thrilled. “When we told our friends of our trip, raving about cold temps, huge amounts of snow and excellent food, we recognized that cross country skiing is becoming more and more interesting to younger people—it’s swooping, it’s fast, and it’s graceful. It’s even a bit sexy. The reason Tirol excels at Nordic skiing is its great accessibility – it’s easy to get here, there’s snow in abundance and access to the network of cross-country ski trails is quick and hassle free.”

We wish you a great time on Tirol’s cross country ski trails!
