The “White Ecstasy” pits hundreds of skiers, riders and telemarkers against St. Anton’s legendary expert terrain—each year at the end of winter season, winter sports buffs from all over the world grind it out at this massive snow jam. But why is this unconventional terrain competition called the “White Ecstasy”? Well, it is named after “Der weiße Rausch” (The White Ecstasy). This 1931 mountain movie was filmed on location in St. Anton and starred Austrian ski heroes of those days. The successful film served as worldwide advertisement for skiing, winter sports and mountain tourism in general.

More than 80 years later, the British romantic comedy and sports film Chalet Girl was filmed on location at the Local Heritage Museum of St. Anton. The historic mansion served as “Chalet” while its interior was used as storage for filming gear and as changing room for the cast. A hot tub replaced the original idyllic pond in the film, setting for the famous hot tube scene.

Olympic gold medallist Mario Matt introduces us to the “The Birthplace of Alpine Skiing”, Adi Werner opens the doors of his sumptuous Five Star Hospiz Hotel with its remarkable wine cellars and Wilma Himmelfreundpointner shows us around the Local Heritage Museum, which was used to represent a luxury accommodation in the movie “Chalet Girl”.
