Or perhaps not, because falling in love isn’t really about choosing the type you prefer, but rather more about the chemistry between two people.
So please don’t take the following descriptions too seriously, but instead treat them as a bit of fun. If anyone recognizes themselves in one of the descriptions, it is pure co-incidence and totally unintentional :).
1. Rooted in tradition
This Tirolean man is a down-to-earth type, with calves of steel. He is practical, gets stuck in, and is usually good with his hands. He often runs a farm (alongside a regular job) and is very connected to nature. He is an active member of one or more village clubs, and still speaks in a real Tirolean dialect. He doesn’t go away on holiday, because for him there simply is no place like home. His favourite item of clothing is lederhosen, and he can dance the foxtrot and the polka well. Women like his unconventional style, even if it does sometimes seem a bit uncaring, which actually is not the case. He just is who he is, with no pretences, airs or graces. He will be sparing with compliments, true to the saying that ‘no criticism is praise enough’. He wants a woman who will accept him as he is, and who will share his love of nature. In return, he will stay by her side for the rest of his life – except when his is out on a trip with the fire brigade, that is.
He likes: tent festivals
He doesn’t like: pin-stripe suits
Dress style: traditional
2. Keen sportsman
Tirol is a mountain sports paradise, and with so much on offer right on their doorstep, many Tiroleans are keen mountain bikers, rock climbers, mountaineers and touring skiers. This means that any relationship with a sportsman will be strongly affected by the weather. When the weather is good, he will cancel whatever else he might have planned – why, what else can he do when the mountains are calling? Usually the sportsman doesn’t own a car, because he can cycle to wherever he wants to go. The sportsman is very fit, even into old age, but his weather-beaten face reveals that he doesn’t use a strong enough sun cream, if any at all. After all, being fit is the priority, not looking good. He wants to find a woman who is as crazy about the mountains as he is, meaning that she must be just as fit. The reward for her will be a well-balanced, contented man who, after having done his sport, enjoys a round of drinks and good Tirolean food in a mountain hut, with the sun shining down on his unprotected face. Happily arm-in-arm with his beloved.
He likes: bicycle oil
He doesn’t like: rainy weather
Dress style: cycling shorts
3. Successful businessman
This Tirolean man lives in a town or small city in Tirol, preferably in a top-floor penthouse. He is hard-working, successful, knows the right people and is well respected. He lives for his work, whether he be a banker, business consultant, lawyer or similar. He has many friends – business friends – and likes to attend high-profile events, in the VIP lounge, of course. Charismatic, polite and eloquent, he is attractive to all those women who would also like to live in a penthouse. You might think that he would be better off in a large city, but you would be wrong. Although he doesn’t show it in his speech or dress, he is very attached to Tirol. Here he has the best of both worlds – an urban lifestyle and the beautiful countryside, where doing some sport in the mountains is important for him to achieve a work-life balance. Women who fall for his intelligence and taste for the good life will need some staying power, however, because generally he won’t commit himself quickly in affairs of the heart. When he does, though, he will greatly value the love of his life, as befits someone with impeccable good taste.
He likes: roof-top bars
He doesn’t like: mucking out barns
Dress style: shirt
4. Committed family man
The family man is usually still living at home, probably on the first floor of his parents’ house, which is in a Tirolean village. Living at home is more a way of life than a rational decision, although it may be hidden behind the excuse of the high prices of flats in Tirol. In actual fact, he really doesn’t want to move out, because he enjoys the benefits of living at home too much. So he is looking for a woman who is like his own mother, or, at least, one who will get on well with her. Which isn’t so bad, because if it works out well, his partner will also benefit from his mother’s loving care. He won’t make many alterations to his home, at the most building an extension to the family home. He is a very nice man, relaxed and easy-going, and is happy to be spoilt, because that’s what he’s used to. He goes to work conscientiously, often to an office job. And at the weekends he goes hiking or skiing, and invites his friends around for a barbeque – in his parents’ garden, which is mown by his dad.
He likes: his mum
He doesn’t like: property ads
Dress style: T-shirt
5. Always on the go
The main characteristic of this Tirolean man is that he doesn’t have time. On top of his job he has many commitments and hobbies, which take up his whole week. He does something of everything and unfortunately this can stress him out sometimes. Theater troupe, jogging club, folk dance group… there are simply too many things for this busy Tirolean to do, and very few of them happening at home. This can make having a relationship quite difficult, especially when his partner doesn’t join in with everything. He is sociable and outgoing, with lots of friends and acquaintances, and is a very helpful person. Which is a good thing in itself, but which can make a relationship even more challenging because he finds it hard to say ‘no’. However, when the right person comes along, he might realise that some of his hectic lifestyle was only compensating for the lack of something much better, and now that he has found it, he will finally be able to prioritise.
He likes: club events
He doesn’t like: spontaneity
Dress style: freestyle
